Mentoring Definition and Benefits
Definition
While
there are many different definitions of what mentoring is,
most agree that mentoring relationships work best where
the protégé takes responsibility for his/her
own development. Establishing a framework for regular conversations
to discuss relevant issues and progress towards specific
goals with a more experienced project manager can help speed
the process of development. While the protégé
should begin by identifying his/her needs, PMI mentors will
be needed who can help guide the process.
It is
helpful to consider that the common thread uniting all types
of coaching & mentoring is that these services offer
a vehicle for analysis, reflection and action that ultimately
enable the protégé to achieve success in one
more areas of their life or work. One succinct published
definition of mentoring is... "off-line help by one
person to another in making significant transitions in knowledge,
work or thinking."

colleagues.
